If you haven’t already heard, Barber Temple recently opened it’s doors in sunny Brisbane.
Barber Temple is unlike anything that the Australian industry has ever seen before. For too long Barbers have had to rely on the hairdressing industry when it comes to accessing great products and industry leading education
Barber Temple sets out to change that, giving barbers a place to call their own.
Offering world class education from the best that Australia has to offer, top of the range tools and of course, the world’s best products.
We recently caught up with Fraser Forsey, Barber Temple’s Lead Educator and Director. Check out what he had to say.
UCD: Congratulations on the new space, the fitout looks incredible, tell us about the concept?
FF: Since I started barbering 17 years ago, I’ve always dreamt of a place that provides everything a Barber would need under one roof. Tools, equipment, product, education, events, networking opportunities and a place just to hang out. Over the last couple of years the stars aligned and with some amazing partners who share the same vision we’ve been fortunate enough to be in a position to make that a reality.
UCD: Pretty cool to see a barber led education space. What would you say is your point of difference in the education arena?
FF: A key difference for us is that all our education is delivered by barbers, for barbers. Historically, barbering has always been treated like the poor cousin of hairdressing, particularly when it comes to education.
We really wanted to change that and deliver both certified and non-accredited training in an environment dedicated to barbering. I think it’s about time we had a space we can use to showcase our skills and pass on our knowledge to the next generation.
The other thing that has always been important to me is that it’s open to barbers from all walks. That’s why we brought together some amazing educators who’ve inspired me along the way. I still can’t believe I get to work with the likes of Steve Purcell, Mark Rabone and Lino Dádderio! It was always important to us that Barber Temple is inclusive and has a real community vibe. None of the territorial stuff that sometimes happens in our industry. On any given day you’ll see barbers in here with totally different styles, and from totally different backgrounds, just chatting about what they do and how they go about it. I love it!
UCD: And what about the wholesale space?
FF: I’m a clipper nerd, so it’s basically my dream shop! We really believe that when you’re spending big money on tools and equipment, you should be able to shop in an environment that reflects the industry and the quality of the product. You should be able to get advice directly from someone who knows what they’re talking about. So we’ve tried to make the space really experiential and hands-on. A barber’s tools are really personal, so you should be able to touch and feel and compare before you commit to your purchase.
UCD: Is the plan to expand into other states?
FF: I hope so! The response has been incredible so far, so I’d love to take what we’ve managed to achieve here in Brisbane and replicate it in other states.
With all that said, we could only say that if you are in the industry, and are ever in Brisbane, Barber Temple HAS to be on your list of places to visit.
