UD: How long have you been shaping boards for and where did the passion start?
I’ve been shaping for about 15-16 years now, shaped the first one when I was about 14 or 15 in Mum’s garage and that was just because I wanted something that at that time I couldn’t find. At 15 you don’t have a lot of money to buy boards, so you are always trying to make stuff. At least that was the way I did it.

UD: What are some of your other interests aside from surfing and being a mad dog?
Haha, I don’t have time for any other interests. I like going motorbike riding every now and then but I mean surfing and shaping definitely take up the majority of time for me that could be spent doing other things. It’s like a lifestyle and a business in one so its hard to differentiate between what’s business and pleasure.

UD: Have you got any bad habits you would like to change?
I’m in the process of quitting smoking and that’s a pretty bad habit I’m trying to get rid of, so far so good!

UD: Who is your favourite surfer? Why?
It’s hard to say, there are so many. Around the coast probably Harry (Harrison Roach), Peto (Dane Peterson), and Cuddles (Matt Cuddihy). I just like those guys that make surfing look easy, stylish, smooth and all rounded. Those guys that can ride long boards and short boards equally well, that’s impressive.

Its hard to go past Joel Tudor because of that effortless and smooth approach, and also all the guys that have influenced him, I mean there’s so many out there but that’s just to name a couple but yeah, those would be the first that come to mind.
